ABU Dhabi Men’s College students recently visited the Arabian Power Company Umm Al Nar Power and Desalination Project on Sas Al Nakhl, approximately 20km east of Abu Dhabi city.
The 36 Engineering students were able to see the full process of the desalination and water purification system, in addition to the associated power generating process.
The visiting students are currently enrolled in the Power Generation & Transmission course as part of their Electrical Engineering Technology major.
In the future, another group of Engineering students will be visiting the control room and learning about the (SCADA) and distributed control system (DCS), as part of their academic field trips program.
Visits to functioning industrial laboratories are particularly interesting for ADMC students as they relate directly to their studies in ADMC. The College is equipped with 5 Simulation labs which familiarize the students with different pieces of equipment, such as single Gas Turbine simulator, a Dual Gas Turbine simulator, desalination simulators and two oil Rigs simulators.
ADMC uses state-of-the-art equipment to train its engineering students and uses field trips to important power generating companies in the Emirate to establish links between theoretical learning in college laboratories and lecture rooms, and its practical utilization in the real world.
