The HCT Al Ain Colleges in cooperation with the Al Ain Municipality celebrated “Al Ain’s Arbor Week” on Tuesday, 13th March (AAWC) and Wednesday, 14th March, (AAMC).
The event was an outdoor theoretical and practical demonstration on how to plant seedlings and how to take care of them in the UAE environment.
The demonstration was delivered at both colleges by the Al Ain Municipality’s lead agricultural engineer. A hands-on workshop followed the demonstration where students planted 20 flowers and 15 trees at each campus.
The Al Ain Colleges Sustainability Committee organized this initiative in accordance with its mission and goals of cooperating with the broader society and serving the wider community and environment.
Nearly 50 students and members of staff at each college attended the function. All were enthusiastic, happy, and well-engaged in the activity.
Mohammad Ibrahim, a Foundations student said, “It is nice to learn the principles of choosing a plant to grow, how to plant it, and how to take care of it. I feel proud to plant a tree in my homeland. This will help in keeping the U.A.E. green and clean.”
Abdulla Husein, also a Foundations student, said, “I enjoyed this activity. It is interesting to plant a tree and watch it grow. I won’t forget this moment. After graduation, I will keep visiting the tree I planted and see how big it is. Of course, every time I see my tree, I will remember all of you. Thank you to the Al Ain Municipality and the Sustainability Committee.”
H.E., Engineer Mubarak Al Khaili, the Executive Director of Area Services Sector/City Center at the Al Ain Municipality said, “This function is part of the Al Ain Municipality’s ‘Arbor Week’ celebrations. It is part of our commitment to communicate with all community sectors of Al Ain, especially, educational organisations. At the Al Ain Municipality, we were happy to invite the Al Ain Colleges to participate in this event.
“We congratulate the Al Ain Colleges on being so active in communicating and cooperating with us in achieving our common goals of serving our community and environment. This is not the first function we have carried out jointly with Al Ain Colleges. We have worked together on many other occasions on different initiatives and projects, and we are looking forward to developing and strengthening this mutual relationship.”
