Around 400 high school students from 8 governmental and private schools attended the Dubai Women’s College (DWC) Open Day yesterday.
The event was designed to enhance relations with DWC’s various target audiences, and allow prospective high school students to visit the institution and experience the exciting institution’s atmosphere first hand.
High school students were familiarised with the majors that qualify them for getting a job suited to their interests and inclinations after graduation.
Such an approach can guide students to the suitable program and majoring where they can distinguish themselves. Consequently, the higher education sector will get well-qualified graduates who major in fields which suit them. In other words, students, their families, as well as the nation, will be spared the trouble of having students moving from one major to another or getting bogged down into unsuccessful studies, which will result in a waste of money.
The Open Day event began with a welcome speech by DWC Health Sciences & Student Development Dean Dr. Amna Al Mazam. Following, the students had a full day of 15 workshops held by each of the DWC academic departments – Applied Communications, Business, Education, Health Sciences and Information Technology.
Workshops were hands on and introduced the various programs and project-based learning to high school students. DWC students and staff members were on hand to give a campus tour, including the world-class facilities such as the gym, library and cafeteria, as well as answer questions on degree program offerings and campus life.
Hamda Bin Reda, DWC Recruitment Coordinator, pointed out that DWC Open Day was organised for the third year in a row due to the great success it made last year.
“One of the key objectives of holding the Open Day is to introduce the high school students to different specialisations offered at Dubai Women’s College and emphasize the importance of students making the right majoring choice,” she said.
In addition, the high school students were acquainted with the healthy lifestyle that DWC offers its students in the campus as only healthy food is served in all facilities.
