The City Campus of the HCT’s Abu Dhabi Women’s College was the site of Ankabut’s recent semi-annual User’s Meeting.
Ankabut is the UAE Advanced Network for Research and Education, and the HCT and other universities across the nation are its members.
Senior leaders from UAE universities, including administrators, faculty, and CIOs, attended the two-day conference to learn how to use the nation’s computing infrastructure for improvements in higher education and scientific research.
Dr. Mark Drummond, HCT Provost, welcomed participants in the opening session.
Under the theme “The Way Forward,” this semester’s meetings featured outstanding keynote speakers Jim Roche, from Canada’s Advanced Research and Innovation Network, and Dr. Constantin Toenz of the Swiss national research education network. Both shared their thoughts on the critical role played by research networks in scientific and educational collaboration. In addition, several distinguished UAE-based educators discussed research and teaching technologies in small group sessions.
Also greeting the assembled attendees were Mr. Fahem Al-Nuaimi, CEO of Ankabut; Dr. Arif Sultan Al Hammadi, Executive Vice President of Khalifa University; and Dr. Eesa Bastaki, the chief executive of the UAE’s ICT Fund.
Dr. Tayeb Kamali, Vice-Chancellor of the Higher Colleges of Technology, was present for some of the meetings.
“The HCT is proud to be a partner in this distinguished network of information and communications technologists,” he said.
“Sharing the latest information and trends in research and technology transfer, as well as networking with experts in the field, complements HCT’s commitment to excellence in education through technology and innovation.”
Dr. Jace Hargis, Director of the HCT’s ADWC, added: “The HCT’s Abu Dhabi Women’s College was honored to host and to participate in these important discussions.”
