In keeping with the spirit of the 40th National Day celebrations, Ras Al Khaimah Men’s Campus’ Student Council recently hosted a celebratory event to acknowledge the generous donations made by both HE Sheikh Faisal bin Saqr Al Qassimi and Julphar Pharmaceuticals in support of a local facility for children and youth with Special Needs.
Under the leadership and initiative of Student Council President, Khaled Habeeb, Ras Al Khaimah Men’s College Student Council organized a charity event to promote awareness of and raise funds for the special needs children in the Emirate.
“There are things in our own community which need support and promotion. Our Student Council feels it’s important to recognize our local centre, which serves the needs of all special needs students in the community,” Khaled said.
The event was sponsored jointly by HE Sheikh Faisal bin Saqr Al Qassimi and Julphar Pharmaceuticals. Exchanging bids for a painting of Arabian horses, RAK Colleges Director Dr. Robert Moulton and HE Sheikh Faisal pushed the final bid up to a handsome sum of AED 10,000. The Student Council donated AED 5,000 to the charity, while staff and student attendees also contributed to the cause, bringing the total amount of funds raised to AED17,000.
The program featured a performance of traditional dancing by a group of young men from the centre; the dancers’ enthusiasm was obvious, and both staff and students were delighted with the traditional gun tossing, and hair-swaying dances of the younger children who came to perform at the college.
A group of young girls and boys, who were clearly enjoying the spotlight, warmed the hearts of the audience. Many staff remarked that the children were a joy to see and it was a thrill to witness the smiles on their faces.
In this special year in the history of the UAE, it was truly a spirited celebration for the gifted performers and the audience alike.
