HCT-Fujairah recently introduced the first of what is expected to be regular business and entrepreneurship workshops, entitled Learning from Entrepreneurs through Questions and Answers (LEQA).

LEQA is the brainchild of the Fujairah Colleges’ Krystyna Krol, Chair of the Bachelor Programs and Mohamed Payab of Community Relations and it took place at Fujairah Women’s College on November 16, 2011.

The gala event was organized by the fourth year Bachelor students studying Entrepreneurship and Small Business Management in their Business Administration – Accounting program, under the guidance of Business Faculty member Lana Ayyash.

The LEQA conference was well attended by both male and female students from HCT Fujairah Colleges.

The event itself had been in the planning stage for around four years and Krystyna Krol was thrilled that it was finally launched.

“Mohamed and I saw a need to bring successful and new entrepreneurs together so that they could share their wealth of business knowledge. This evening was magical seeing new and aspiring entrepreneurs embracing Qais Sedki’s wisdom. I’m thrilled we have been able to launch this initiative and look forward to our next meeting in January,” Krystyna said.

HCT-Fujairah’s Director, Dr Dave Pelham welcomed all the guests, before Qais Sedki, founder and managing director of Pageflip Publishing, took to the stage leaving the audience inspired and engaged with his wit, prowess in answering key questions about his business success and what it means to be an entrepreneur.

One of the students who organized the LEQA conference, Amna Essa Massoud was delighted with the number of guests who attended and the success of the networking opportunities that followed the presentations. She said, as a bachelor student, it was very important to be involved in organizing such events.

“I am very proud of my classmates and my teacher for putting on such an international event during global entrepreneurship week,” she added.

Lana Ayyash from HCT-Fujairah’s Business Faculty was one of the teachers who mentored the students. She discussed the importance of including global events in the education of students and heralded the LEQA conference as a major step in the right direction.

“Educating our students through taking part in such global and important events falls in line with our teaching mission to graduate students with the skills needed for the local and international job markets,” she said.

Conference delegates obtained valuable insights into operating a small business successfully.

The LEQA event has now become a regular event firmly placed in the HCT-Fujairah calendar with the next meeting taking place on January 16, 2012
