New Al Maktoum Institute summer program participants

Nine HCT students have been selected to participate in the Al Maktoum Institute summer program.

The Al Maktoum Institute for Arabic and Islamic Studies has announced the participants of its summer school program for students from the Higher Colleges of Technology, Zayed University, UAE University, Abu Dhabi University and the British University of Dubai. 


The program runs from 4 July to 22 July 2009 and takes place in Dundee, Scotland.  Nine of the participants are Higher Colleges of Technology students.
 
The focus of the program will be learning about Scotland through classes on Scottish history, traditions and culture. Also planned are practical sessions on Scottish culture such as Scottish cooking and visits to major Scottish cities and centres such as Edinburgh, Glasgow and Aberdeen.
 
The program will be a combination of lectures, seminars, class discussions and debates.  It will also include study trips and other activities relating to the theme of the program such as visits to places of historic and cultural interest in Scotland.
 
All candidates went through a nomination/selection process and met several criteria including the requirement to have a GPA which placed them in the top 10% of their class.  Additionally they were required to possess excellent English language skills and be excellent ambassadors for the HCT and the UAE.
