The theme of Mosaic 2008/09 is 'Proudly Emirati'.
Sharjah Higher Colleges of Technology (SHCT) have announced that the theme of this year’s Mosaic event will be ‘Proudly Emirati’.
The theme follows on the instructions of His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahayan, President of the UAE and Ruler of Abu Dhabi, to designate 2008 as the Year of National Identity.
Mosaic is an annual event held under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Dr Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qassimi, Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Sharjah. Its aim is to inspire in students a sense of wonder and curiosity about the world in which they live.
During Mosaic 2008/09, students will participate in various educational activities throughout the academic year that will culminate in a major conference in March 2009 under the same theme.
Amongst the planned activities is a traditional camel expedition for students that will start on the shores of Dibba and end at the entrance to the college six days later. Also included are arts exhibits; poetry readings; a film/video festival; visits to important locations within the UAE; international educational trips; and a number of educational competitions.
Teachers will also be expected to incorporate the theme of the event in the curriculum and student projects. The conference will attract national and international speakers and will deal with topics on national identity as it relates to language, media, art, tradition, and globalization.
In announcing the theme, Sharjah Higher Colleges of Technology director Dr Farid Ohan said national pride and cultural identity was a major focus of the event.
“I am most delighted with the choice of this theme. It is inspired by the vision of our Chancellor, His Excellency Sheikh Nahayan Mabarak Al Nahayan, who urges us to do our part in preparing a new generation of Emiratis confident in themselves, proud of their culture and language, and able to live and work in a changing and globalized world.”
